As the snow melts away and the daylight grows longer, we find ourselves ready to be done with winter and welcome spring with open arms. For many, especially here in Michigan, spring feels like a fresh start and with a fresh start comes one of my favorite things of all spring cleaning! Spring cleaning is a way to declutter your home, organize your home, and give it a nice deep cleaning.

To get started, I always recommend picking a day or even a weekend when you can dedicate a good amount of time to your home. Rome wasn’t built in a day and your spring cleaning makeover won’t happen in a few hours.

Get Organized

Once you have a list made of things around your home you want to accomplish, I always like to start by getting organized. Work on eliminating clutter in each room before you start cleaning. This is also great time to consider making piles for donating, a garage sale, or garbage.

From the windows to the walls

Now that each room is decluttered, donation piles are bagged and ready to go, consider washing your windows and your window treatments. Washing your windows inside and outside, along with washing your screens will remove all of the snow and rain residue from the fall and winter. Personally, I like to use warm water in a bucket with a splash of ammonia and a microfiber window scrubber and squeegee combo. (It was life changing!) Also, do not forget about the sliding glass door tracks, I like to scrub the tracks and wipe away any other debris. Once this step is complete, consider wiping down all of the surfaces in your home, cupboards, counter tops, walls, ceiling fans, and baseboards. Think about surfaces you do not wash on a regular basis.

Make your floors sparkle

Spring cleaning time is a great time to deep clean the floors in your home. Consider shampooing your carpets or deep cleaning your hardwood floors. With hardwood floors make sure you know what type of hardwood you have so you use proper cleaning solution that will not damage your floors. If you do not have a carpet shampooer some big department stores and grocery stores will let you rent one for a weekend.

The little things

Lastly, some things to consider when you are spring cleaning your home can be, cleaning underneath big furniture, giving your appliances a good scrub and polishing your furniture. Some small tasks to complete as well include, washing your shower curtain, reorganizing the pantry and checking the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

Spring cleaning may look a little different in your home compared to mine but taking some time to dedicate to your space, giving your home a good scrubbing, can leave you feeling happy, organized and ready for the summer season.
