Financial Aid Awareness Month is celebrated across the nation every February. This celebration is an effort to provide crucial information to families and students about federal, state, and institutional financial student aid. During February, students are urged to complete the FAFSA before the deadline of June 30th, access their financial aid packages, and get the most bang for your buck at your top college choices.

What is the FAFSA?

FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The U.S Department of Education uses the FAFSA form to determine students eligibility for federal financial aid based on their financial situation. This form takes under thirty minutes to complete and could provide you access to federal grants, scholarships, work-study and loans, basically free money to pay for school.

Know your resources

If you have questions in regards to financial aid for post-secondary education, reach out to your local financial aid advisors office or check out www.studentaid.gov. For our students in the Michigan State University area check out https://finaid.msu.edu/ourstaff.asp and in the Oakland University area https://oakland.edu/financialservices/
